What are Genital warts?

Genital warts are caused by a virus similar to that which causes skin warts. They are passed on by skin to skin contact which can occur during sex. Symptoms of warts are small fleshy growths or warts which appear anywhere on the genitals. They can appear anything from 1-9 months after infection. There is a link between genital warts and cervical cancer in women. Women who have had warts should have a regular cervical smear. |
How are they treated?

A special kind of ointment or paint may be applied on the warts at the genito-urinary medicine clinic. Most will disappear after treatment. To learn more about genital warts click here |
